The SAP Process to Return to Duty Eligibility:
Initial Assessment:
The SAP conducts a face-to-face assessment with the employee over Zoom. This virtual meeting allows the SAP to gather detailed information about the employee’s substance use history, evaluate any related issues, and assess their readiness and ability to return to safety-sensitive duties.
Recommend a Required Plan of Treatment and/or Education:
Based on the assessment findings, the SAP recommends a personalized plan of treatment and/or education for the employee. This plan is designed to address the employee’s substance abuse issues effectively and to meet DOT regulatory requirements for return-to-duty.
Send a Report to Your Employer about That Recommendation:
The SAP provides a detailed report to the employer outlining the recommended plan of treatment and/or education. This report includes specific requirements and goals for the employee’s return-to-duty process, ensuring transparency and compliance with DOT regulations.
Follow Up Meeting
Throughout the treatment and/or education plan, the SAP monitors the employee’s progress. This includes conducting follow-up evaluations to verify completion of the recommended program and assessing its effectiveness. The face-to-face follow-up evaluation ensures that the employee has successfully completed the requirements and is prepared to safely resume their safety-sensitive duties.
